a. What is your topic and why?
- I chose freelance writing as my topic because I have a passion for writing but am uncertain what field of writing I would like to go into. Ultimately, my goal is to because a published novelist, but perhaps I'd find a different field of literature I would enjoy working with. By broadening my topic, it will give me a chance to explore different types of writing in case I realize novels aren't my forte.
b. And what do you hope to accomplish this year with this topic (connecting your answer to each of the 4 ESLRs)
- iPoly Citizen: I plan to pull my own weight the entire project. Considering it is an independent project all year long, this relates to the me improving as a iPoly citizen because I know I have not previously worked as hard as I could have and this is my final chance to prove to my class, to my family, and to myself that I can reach my goal of graduating from high school and attending university while doing something I love.
- Effective Communicator: I plan to reach out beyond school walls for help. In previous years, I've kept solitude with myself and my mentors who I purely associated with at school. This will make me more effective as a learner because not only will this help me in school, it will allow me to become familiar with actual work and what a writing career holds in store.
- Effective Learner: I plan to apply the steps my mentor(s) advise me to take to properly understand what it is to be a writer and that will hopefully be positively effective towards my senior project. This will make me more effective as a learner because I must first practice effective methods before I can be deemed professional or earn some sort of credit. Without the proper practice, I will not achieve progress, which is what I most look forward to this year.
- Effective User of Technology: I plan to both hand write and type my pieces or look for pieces of literature that are expressed in more ways than plain text. This will make me more effective as a user of technology because it will allow me to apply different methods of expression that will speak to more than one type of audience. This is necessary if I am to have a steady career as a freelance writer. By exposing my work to multiple audiences, I may be better known, therefore more sought out as an artist of sorts.
